DIY Wedding Emergency Jar

I sooooo wish someone had given me this before my wedding... damn you Pinterest for not being alive in 2006/2007!!

This is the most clever, practical gift... you just never know what you may need in case of 'emergency', the day of your wedding!! And you cannot lie that it's even cuter being in a mason jar! I had done a "Hospital Survival Kit" in a paper bag to give a new mommy...but the jar is just plain adorable.

In preparation for a small brunch get-together I was invited to for a friend, I stalked her Pinterest boards and found THIS pin - to which I proudly proclaimed: "I can totally do that!!"

So here's the list of items I bought & jammed into the jar:
  • Kleenex
  • Band-Aids
  • Bobby pins
  • Advil
  • 2 'Wisps' -mini, disposable tooth brushes
  • Sewing Kit (with scissors, pins, needles, thread, buttons)
  • Tampons (you never know!!)
  • Seam ripper
  • Nail clippers
  • Tweezers
  • Nail file
  • Visine
  • Gum
  • Burts Bees Mango Lip Balm
  • Tums
  • Mouthwash
  • Purell
I'm kind of amazed this all fit inside ONE mason jar!!

And seriously how cute is this little sewing kit I found??

Then I found a little mini wooden chalkboard label (re-used from my street fair booth price stands), and glue some twine to the back...then wrapped it around the jar so it hung nicely. Added some burlap, a button, some lace ribbon...for extra cuteness.

And for the lid, I just followed THIS super simple tutorial with some extra thick cloth fabric, polyfil & a glue gun.

love, love, LOVE how it turned out - it's all about finding the inspiration, then tweaking a few things to make it your own:

I think she loved it as well & hope she gets a little use out of it during her destination wedding in Hawaii next month :-)

In addition to the emergency jar, I also gave her a personalized wooden hanger, with her soon-to-be new last name in wire...perfect for hanging up her wedding dress the day-of!

This exceptionally beautiful, hand-made hanger was made by the super talented San Diego-based: "Burlap Babe" - who far exceeded my expectations, booth in speed (I ordered it with a day turn-around request) and in quality - I mean...I'm crafty & could have attempted this myself, but it would've looked like a preschooler made it! Check out Burlap Babe's site (linked above), her Etsy shop & FB page!

Can't wait to see pics of her dress hanging up on this unique piece of work:

 Congrats Crystal & Lucas!!

Her happy place...

...is in this simple little white flower girl dress.

she. is. STOKED.
she looks sooo grown up!

I could tell she was in full "holy crap, I'm a REAL princess" mode - when I did her hair up in a perfectly set sock bun (gotta love this style!!)...adorned with a little jeweled hair comb...and slipped on her dress. She twirled & twirled with a HUGE smile on her face around the living room.

2 minutes later...

"Okay Kapri...time to take off the dress, we don't want to get it dirty before the wedding! We'll put it back on in a little bit at the church." -- but she refused.

My bad.

I'd be crazy to let her get in the carseat in that thing and risk dirtying it!!! So I had to chase her around the living room until I finally caught her and ever-so-carefully slipped the dress off.

More pics & the wedding story to come...

But this is truly her happy place :-)

Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Cuillo!

If you've never been to a wedding on a huge, gorgeous yacht before... I highly recommend you get knowing some people that plan to wed on the water! SO much fun...

So much in fact, that I didn't take as many pictures as I'd hoped! Not being able to find my actual camera before we left didn't help either...damn iPhone flash sucks for indoors.

My outfit that I'd planned turned out pretty fantastic... and I obviously loved how coordinated James & I are! We even matched some of the decor (see frame pic below), not planned, haha!

After we got up to Newport Beach on Sunday afternoon, we were able to check in early & have a moment at the pool. That 'moment' was inturupted by James and his sudden realization that he'd forgotten his TIE at home!!! Oye vay man. Lucky for us, there was a Kohl's right down the street. Even luckier for us, we found a tie that matched the color of my dress more than his forgotten tie... so I guess it was meant to be!

It was so exciting walking up to the yacht and waiting with all the other guests/friends to board. Once on we got ourselves a drink, admired all the little wedding details...

...then we headed to the upper deck to mingle with friends & check out the amazing view. Shortly after the boat got moving, we all sat to await the ceremony...which was beautiful! I was super emotional though (the champagne probably helped)...I think I was just relieving when James & I got married... and I haven't been to a wedding in awhile!

walking back with hubby
After that was a short cocktail hour while the wedding party took pics, then food, then speeches (more tears), then cake cutting, then the 1st dances (even more tears), then fun dancing (my fav). I have to admit, my heals were a bit higher than I'm used to these days... so I took a little fall once (or twice)... and have a few teeny bruises to prove it. But that means you were havin fun right?!! I think so.
Congrats Joe & Danielle!

All in all, it was a great little 24-hour getaway for James & I... can't wait to do it again in a few weeks... sunning it up in Palm Desert!!

Alexandria's Baby Shower

Last Sunday afternoon, I had the pleasure of co-hosting a simple, yet beautiful luncheon-style baby shower for one of my most treasured & admired friends, Alexandria...whom I've known since high school! She lives up in NorCal now, but came down to SD to visit her fam & friends...so of course we HAD to throw her a baby shower. And what better location, than at the delish Tomiko restaurant, where she both worked AND had her wedding reception at just 2 years ago...so the crew there are practically like a second family to her. How stunning is this bride???!

Alex & Mitch....Mr. & Mrs.!!

We literally had like, 2 weeks notice that she was coming down...so we planned this in just ONE week...that's all folks! Can we get like a medal or something??

The Planners

I of course made her some stylish burp cloths...I had previously asked her to choose 4 patterns out of a bunch, without her knowing what it was for...so this was the end result...I love these things! They become quite a part of your daily 'shoulder' wardrobe, so why not make them cute!?

And of course I had to make her a diaper cake, as mentioned a few months ago...these things are essential!

Lastly, here's a pic of my little scrumptious bits of heaven that I found from Bakeralla - this chick is amazing! I made her cake balls before for Valentine's Day (here) - so when I saw these I thought they'd be perfect in 'baby' sized cones, for a 'baby' shower! I think they turned out pretty damn well!! They were a hit, so tasty & luckily I made a TON, so the ladies had lots of leftovers to take home  ;-)

Oh...and we had a Onesie Creation Station set up along the bar top...it was covered in the cutest stamps, paints, ribbon, iron-on patches, buttons, fabric pens & puffy paint - all the guest got to decorate a onesie & Alex picked her top 3, who won prizes. These ladies got SUPER creative - I was really impressed! We told Alex that she'd have to take a pic of little Ava in each onesie & send to us!!

It was such a wonderful day, a memory that I will cherish forever. Love you Alex!! You are going to be one of THE. most. incredible. mommies. EVER. I'm soooo happy for you & your new journey into parenthood! xoxo

Shower expected, no umbrella needed

I spent this afternoon with some fun girls down at a STUNNING Coronado beach house, celebrating our friend Michele’s bridal shower.

She look amazing of course, in her adorable white sundress...and we are LOVING her darker hair! There was yummy food, delish sangria made by Big C & a bubbly, fruity, spritzer type drink made by Niki and lots of wonderful gifts to watch Michele be 'showered' with.

The day started off a little cloudy & cool...but ended up being a seriously beautiful San Diego day. As I walked into this house & upstairs to join the party...I was met with an insane view of the good ol Pacific Ocean. I wanted to STEAL this house...it's like the perfect getaway spot down the Silver Strand on Coronado island.

I stole this last pic from her FB page...aren't they the cutest???

OH…and side note….
Kapri is finally sitting ‘forward facing’ in her convertible carseat…such a big girl!!

Mr. & Mrs. Anderson!!!

Kate and Gregg have finally tied the knot!! Their wedding was at the breathtaking “Estancia Hotel & Spa” in La Jolla, CA. They have been planning this special day for about 16 months, so we’ve all been anxiously waiting to see how it all played out. Every detail was perfectly executed & people were just amazed at every turn throughout the night. Lynn Schuster was their wedding planner…I had found her on TheKnot.com, loved her & used her for our wedding…then referred her to both Amanda and Kate!!

LOVED the signature red & white “Sangrias” that were served during cocktail hour… oh do those go down smooth! haha

K&G make such a great couple…and we were so fortunate to be a part of a day they’ll remember forever. These lucky kids are now honeymooning in Kauai, HI…soooo jealous!!
LOVE YOU KATE & GREGG!!!
XoXo
