Baby showers have become more & more stylish over the years, especially with the explosion of Pinterest - people are FILLED to the brim with ideas on decorating everything from your house, to nursery, to weddings & parties.
I had a feeling while getting ready for this one that it'd be pretty special...even the location was amazing - tucked away in a little (and by little...I mean huge & exclusive) gated community that contained houses/mansions, which were nothing short of AHHHmazing. Living in San Diego, and right next door to RSF, I'm somewhat accustomed to seeing very nice homes, but as I drove through this particular area...my jaw was on the floor. I just wanted to know one thing.... "what do you people do for a living?!!!!" haha
Anyway, the actual shower was held in the local community room/center (that was flawless in itself), located right on this little lake, surrounded by beautiful homes & lush landscape. We couldn't have hoped for better weather - the whole day was stunning.
I arrived to find adorable shower decor in every inch of that place & being the person I am... took note of all the tiny details the hostess' put into it...I could tell they spent countless hours making everything to ensure it was perfect:
The glowing mamma-to-be {Christina} is a long time friend, who's husband actually used to share an apartment with James & I many years ago. They are high school sweethearts like us, so I love having that common bond with them. They also married in the same location we did - though entirely different theme & feel which was so fun!
My gift set - coordinating necktie onesie, clip-on bowtie, & burp cloth - cannot WAIT to see baby Lucas rockin his new CfC gear:
As she opened my gift, she knew by looking at the front of the card that it was handmade...by me, haha! I'm such a sap, I totally cried writing on the back of it...remembering Kapri as a baby just brought tears to my eyes. It all goes so fast!
Along with the above baby gift set, I also made her a nursing cover from fabric that she'd seen in an Instagram pic and specially requested it a few weeks prior.
Congrats girl & thanks for having me at your out-of-this world, beachy baby shower!!! Can't wait to see how little L's first b-day party turns out! haha

2 lucky little ladies!
This past Sunday, I was honored to attend a baby shower for a dear friend Christi. I met her when I first started my position with my current job...she's always been such a positive, happy person and just a joy to be around. Christi's been blogging about her journey over at "Anything 4 U Baby" and was also featured in a San Diego Examiner infertility article just 8 short months ago. She & her husband have been through SO much, more than I can fathom...but I'm SO happy to report that she's been blessed, after many struggles, with TWIN baby girls...due in just a few months!! These little girls may not know it yet, but they've got a great set of parents, ready to devote their lives to love & nurture them to the fullest!
My SIL, Amanda, & I decided to make her a massive, 4-tiered diaper cake for this very special & much anticipated day. We'd never done one like this before, so it was a challenge...but we pulled it off rather well I'd say!
We love our DCC nights (diaper cake central) - I think the wine, cheese & crackers helps fuel some creativity, haha! For the base, we used 3 pieces of poster board, taped together, then wrapped it up in some ivory fabric. The whole cake has approximately 300 diapers - which they will definitely need with 2 little ones! We hand-painted the "A" & "W" in their nursery colors and found coordinating flowers to match. I'm so proud of this cake...made for one deserving & incredible mother-to-be!
Love you Christi!!! Cannot WAIT to meet little A&W! xoxoxo

Wk 33 Baby Bump
We had our checkup yesterday...the doctor says they 'may' want to induce, if little Kapri continues to gain weight at a steady pace. I still have 7 wks to go, so she could get HUGE by the 40th week. They want to avoid a c-section, so...we'll see what happens. Next appt is April 23rd, at which point they'll probably schedule another ultrasound to check her weight. We'll keep you all posted!!!!!!

Baby Bump - Wk 28
Baby Bump - Week 28:

Last weekend we had our first baby shower with just our close friends. It was hosted by my wonderful sister Chelsea, sister-in-law Amanda and my great friend Niki! It was so much fun and everything went great.
The weather was gorgeous and we were able to see a lot of friends we haven't seen in awhile. We played 2 games, one was guessing how big my belly is with string (James' string was looooooong, I should've thrown him in the pool for thinking I was that big!!) The other was this hilarious game, where everyone had to put a balloon at their belly, then bend over & try to tie their shoe laces (or string) without popping the balloon in 30 seconds or less. It really was so funny to watch...especially since all of the guys got into it to!!
We also had Pat & Oscar's food (go figure) and Amanda made funfetti cupcakes that were de-lish!

Baby Bump - Wk 27 (OMG!)
Week 27...really?? NO...I don't believe it, and I'm sure you all don't as well. Time is going wayyy too fast and I'm afraid if I simply blink again, May 2009 will be here & I'll be holding a teeny person in my arms. So, with 13 weeks to go...I'll try taking as many 'bump' pics as I can. One of these days (well, nights since she's crazy active at night), I'm hoping to get a video of her actually moving around in my belly.
One of the perks of pregnancy..."Expectant Mother Parking" at the malls around here, hahaha!! I finally got to take advantage of this special parking yesterday at UTC mall, there was a few of these parking spaces, but only one left...as if it was meant for me! For those of you who have never seen this...or don't believe me - take a look for yourself!! It's basically like Handicapped parking, except instead of blue lines to mark the spaces, there are PINK lines!!
It's really weird actually, because what if you're 3 months pregnant & not showing...does someone enforce these spaces? It's not like you need a placard hanging on your rear view mirror to prove that you're 'expecting'...anywho, I have the pic to prove that these do actually exist:

Also, the other day I had to go to the doc for a 'glucose test'...which unfortunately involved a rather nasty orange drink that I had to down within 5 minutes. It was very sweet & somewhat similar to orange soda, but without the fizz...I really dislike orange soda...but nevertheless, I survived and I'm extremely happy to report that I DO NOT have gestational diabetes. YAY for me & baby!!!

Baby Bumps - Weeks 25 & 26
Playing catch up on some "bump" pics...here are weeks 25 & 26.
At this point I'm definitely feeling bigger every week!! It's now taking me awhile to find clothes that fit right and I have to practically force myself to wear lower heals - lately I have a love/hate relationship with my tall shoes!!!
Last night I was looking back at my earlier pictures from the beginning of my pregnancy and realized how little I seem compared to now...and I'm not getting smaller anytime soon, haha!!
It also saddens me to think that we're rounding 3rd base as we enter the 3rd trimester...it's all happening so fast. Before we know it, May will be here & we'll be eagerly anticipating her arrival.
However, as much as I am truly enjoying being pregnant (or large & in charge!), I really can't wait to have a glass of red wine & get a friggin TAN! Don't let my pics fool you...Canon cameras have a special 'tanning' feature that allows you to darken skin...LOVE IT!!

Christmas, Snow, a month of 'bumps' and a brand New Year!
So, the past month since I have blogged has been an eventful one. We were able to move back to where we both grew up in the beautiful city of Encinitas - and are now much closer to our families. The area is wonderful, our neighbors are so friendly and Mika loves the extra space to play in & around our new home.
My sister's, Mika & I took a day trip up to Mount Laguna to play in the snow, then through to Julian to indulge in some famous Julian Apple Pie and finally down through Santa Ysabel for some delicious rosemary bread at Dudley's Bakery. This bump was around my 16th week:

My sister & I both work for the same company...who had our holiday party at the Marriott in La Jolla. Luckily I was able to fit into a little black dress that I had wore pre-pregnancy...so that was nice & made me feel pretty! That was around my 17th week of pregnancy:
We celebrated a wonderful Christmas both with James' family & mine. This will be our last with just ourselves & Mika...next year we'll have a little 7-month old in our presence! This was around the 18th week:
We also just celebrated a New Year - and we think 2009 will have a LOT in store for us! We spent the evening having a dinner party with our close friends at Niki & Nate's house. This is my 19 week bump:

I Love Turkey! Gobble gobble!!
Thanksgiving is upon us once again...thank goodness!
The food James & I (and baby!) indulged in yesterday was amazing and we slept very well because of it!! We are thankful for soooo many things this year. First, we have each other (& our pup, Mika!) - which we are grateful for everyday! Second, we've been blessed with a very quick & so far easy pregnancy. Third, we are grateful for all our wonderful friends & loving families. Forth, we FINALLY found a place to move out in Encinitas - which is extremely close to my mom, his mom & his grandparents. We are planning on moving on Dec. 13th - which doesn't give us much time to find someone to rent our current place. So we're keeping our fingers crossed for that to happen soon!
To start the day, we first met up at James' dad's work to say hi. This is when my hunger grew worse, as they had a turkey cookin and it smelt SO GOOD! Then they got a call for a house fire (I assumed a 'turkey' fire!), so we all left. From there, me, James, Steve & Amanda all headed to our 'home-to-be' just so they all could take a peak at where it was located...I'm so excited I wish we were moving in now! Then we went to my mom's house to say hi...then to his grandparents house to EAT & visit with all of his family.
After wonderful food & a little relaxation after, James & I went back to my mom's to top it all off with some Banana Cream Pie...my FAV!!!
Tonight we're actually going to my mom's again for a Thanksgiving at her house with my family. So that will be fun...Thanksgiving never ends! Baby is getting a ton of good food this holiday weekend :) Speaking of baby, I never wrote earlier this week or last -- it's been crazy around here. So here are the last 2 baby bump photos for you to enjoy. Last night's picture was me+baby+full of turkey dinner!

Week 12 bump...we made it to 3 months!!!
James & I are very happy to say that we've made it to the 3 month mark...I've started to tell people at work and it feels wonderful!! Keeping this BIG of a secret for over a month now has been extremely hard. I don't know how people wait til 4 months!! Anyway, things are going great...know that I don't have to wear loose shirts to work!!
Last Wednesday we were able to hear the little one's heartbeat and THAT was incredible. I couldn't stop smiling from ear to ear. James' mother, Mary, went with us to the appointment...so it was a nice experience to have them both there with me. James' first comments were "wow...it sounds like a cave in there!", hahaha...that was true, but I've read some people say that the actual heartbeat sounds like galloping horses, but I honestly didn't think it sounded like anything but a teeny tiny little baby...still busy growing inside me. James then asked the doc where we could purchase one of the machines for our own home listening pleasure! I haven't looked into it, but I'm sure they're a pretty penny!!!
Everyone keeps saying "oh, it's a boy, I know it...", "your gonna carry on the Mejia name"...yet the doctor had a different opinion after hearing the heartbeat. She said that girls typically have faster heartbeats!! So, now we've heard mixed thoughts on the sex and I don't know what to think! We'll just have to wait it out another 6 or 7 weeks or so til we'll know for sure.

Week 11 bump + A brand new PRESIDENT!!!!
"YES WE CAN!"
WOW! We finally elected the first African American President of the good ol' USA...I voted for him today and I'm extremely proud of it. I however, didn't wait in line for 5 1/2 hours like my poor sister...I walked right in to my polling place down the street from my house, voted and right back out within 20 minutes!!
Tonight is definitely a historic moment in our lives...one that I & no one will ever forget.
Tonight is definitely a historic moment in our lives...one that I & no one will ever forget.
His speech just now was amazing, inspiring and so touching. This country is ready for some much needed change and I truely believe that President Barack Obama is the one to lead us in the right direction.
Anywho...here's my Week 11 Baby Bump!! My next doc appt is tomorrow...hope we can hear the heartbeat...stay tuned!!

Baby Bumps - Week 9 & 10
Hi all....we finally got a new computer today!!! Although we're still trying to figure out an inexpensive way to recover our old pictures...ugggggg!!
Other than that, things are going good...we spent the weekend trying to apartment hunt - what a friggin headache that is. The amount we pay for what we have is GREAT...but insane/crappy neighbors and shotty A/C is NOT worth the bargain. So, we have to think of the little one that will soon be entering our lives....and get the hell outta here. We've been in our beautiful apartment now for about 3 1/2 years - but it's time to move out & move on. It's just a matter of finding the right amount of space, with the necessary amenities, for the right cost, with no stairs (we're gonna have our hands full!!) and in the right location (can't be too far from our wonderful family!). Keep your fingers crossed for us...in a perfect world, we'd be in a new home before Christmas. What a gift that would be!!!
We can't wait for our next doctor's appointment, which is on November 5th. It'd be so amazing if we could hear the little heartbeat this time...but I'm not sure if we will or not at this appt. Out of the few people that know about the pregnancy this early on, people are always curious about possible baby names. To be honest, my mind hasn't even gone there...doubt James' has either, hahaha! We're just so focused on learning what's in store for us in the next few months - plus, I think we need to find out the sex of the baby first, before I start daydreaming about all those fun baby names! There's a lot of pressure to pick the right one...and hope he/she won't want to change it when they're older!!!
Anywho - here's my updated belly shots:
